- Scrum teams do occasionally finish their sprint goal early. Sometimes though, you'll have a team that consistently completes their sprint goal early and needs to add work to the sprint backlog. While this may not seem like a big deal, they finish their goal after all, it really is. When a team continually under commits to the sprint, there could be a couple of things going on. One is that they may be burned out and need to slow their pace for a sprint. If you think the team is facing burnout, work with the PO to reduce sprint commitment by half for one sprint. This will give the team a much needed break. Another reason for under commitment is external pressure to never fail. For the record, when a team misses their sprint goal I never consider it a failed sprint. I consider it a valuable lesson in what the team can reasonably achieve. I prefer to call these misses.
