- A very quick way to sour an otherwise great relationship with a recruiter is to be slow to respond, to respond in nonproductive or even inappropriate ways, or to be completely unresponsive. Time is often quite literally money for recruiters. So if you make it hard for them to screen you for jobs, to set up an interview, or to follow up with you through the interview process, you're impeding their ability to be effective in their jobs. That's probably not going to work in your favor either. To ensure that you're building a productive relationship with that recruiter, I would ask some of these questions on the front end. Number one, what's your process? How often do you think we should touch base? How do you prefer that I communicate with you?
