Preparing for cold calls

- Now something you must do is be prepared. You need to be ready to go in. And if you're unprepared, it's obvious. They're calling, they're fumbling. You don't know about the customer, you don't know about the company, you don't know about the product. It's just going to make the call go south. So you have an opportunity to be prepared, and it will make you far more successful. It's a bit of a cheesy example, but imagine if you were approaching a girl or a guy at a bar. If you're just doing it on the fly, you're going to be a lot less successful than if you sit there, you think about what you're going to say. Maybe you can do some background research on them. You can find out what they like, some of their hobbies, some of the sports they're into, where they're from. It's obviously going to make you more successful. So preparing for cold calls and preparing for particularly that customer is crucial to being far more successful in doing so. So whilst I would say don't have a hard and fast script, it will help with some of the fear and help with some of your effectiveness if you are prepared for the call. You're making that skeleton of a plan, which can be adapted over time and you can go slightly off-script, be more human. But at least you have that map to always go back to so you know where you are, you know what's next, and you don't even have to think. You just go through the process. So without further ado, let's move on to the rest of this section on how to prepare for a cold call.
