From the course: Pivoting Your Small Business in a Crisis

A plan for right now and what's ahead

- [Narrator] Being in a crises is like being in a snowstorm. I grew up in Norway, so a large part of my childhood was spent traveling long distances on skis. And every once in a while, I get trapped in a snowstorm. What I learned early on was the importance of paying attention to where you are right now while also looking ahead to where you are going. In a snowstorm, this is exceedingly difficult because you can hardly see where you are and you cannot see where you are going. You also don't know how big the storm is or when it will end. All you know for certain is it will end and you need to plan now for what you are going to do once the storm passes. Our aim with this course is to help you do just that. Make a plan for right now to keep yourself and your business going and a plan for what comes next. With the information my colleagues and I provided fresh in mind, your next step is to figure out which of these strategies work for your business and which initiatives you want to undertake. Every business is unique and your path forward will reflect what is unique about your business and the people who power it. In the midst of crises, we often feel powerless and lost and alone. That carefully laden path we built for ourselves is lost in the snow and in every direction there's only white. But you are not alone and we are not lost. Look around and you'll find all the people who make up your company, your community, and our world. And though the path we set for ourselves may be buried in the snow, we still know where we're headed. There's still a world of opportunity beyond the storm. In the wake of crises follows uncertainty of what comes next. We look back at where we came from and feel grief for what we lost. That grief is important, it tells us, "This, this right here, this is what you value. "It gives us the capability to reflect "on what matters to us and why we do what we do." And from that insight, we can carve a new path for ourselves and our communities. A path towards a future built on what we value the most. That is our task now. To build new paths together. Thank you for watching and good luck from all of us.
