The pen is mightier
- [Instructor] If you're one of those writers who likes to type versus handwrite, then listen up. This tool might help you. Research has recently shown that college students who take notes by hand actually absorb more of the topic than those that take notes by typing on a laptop. That is because the brain is more activated and engaged when writing longhand. The same can be true for writing. Regardless of the science behind it, I often find that when I'm stuck on a writing problem, getting out the old notebook and pen frees up my mind in ways that typing cannot. I personally like to pick out special notebooks specifically for this use. I pick one with a pattern or color that inspires me and makes me feel creative. Then I shut down everything else, clear my desk of all the clutter and just get writing. I write anything: notes about a character, a description of the problem I'm having, a question I'd like to answer, a recap of the project, whatever I want. I find that just the act of…
