- Picasso was an incredible painter, but apparently once he put down his brushes he turned into a rather unpleasant person. There are countless examples of remarkable people who were able to achieve flow and excel in certain activities, but they were not necessarily able to translate those flow experiences into the rest of their lives. So even if people find flow in one area of their life, if the enjoyment is piecemeal and not linked in a meaningful way to something bigger, there will still be a certain level of dissatisfaction. In Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's book on flow, he describes a person living a meaningful life as "someone who knows his desires "and works with purpose to achieve them "is a person whose feelings, thoughts, "and actions are congruent with one another, "and is therefore a person who has achieved inner harmony."
