From the course: How to Become a Purpose-Driven Journalist

The importance of multiple sources

- The journalist needs to do some introspection as well. Are we reporting with multiple sources? A particular story. Not just one source, you have to have multiple sources. And you've seen the Washington Post and the New York Times. Recently, one Pulitzer saying seven sources, nine sources, naming how many sources, because of the gravity of the allegations that they are essentially leveling against the President of the United States. That's important. We have to have multiple sources because one source can remember something wrong, and they can have a motive. So we've got to do some introspection on that. Journalism is incredibly important in terms of that. Viewers have multiple choices and where to get their news from. I think at CBS News, we want to be the most trusted source in news. Many times, there are channels out there where people are watching them and getting affirmation rather than information. Our goal is to give information, unbiased factual information.
