The importance of inclusion

- The lines between work, home, and greater societal challenges have blurred. Movements like #MeToo and Black Lives Matter have put the topics of diversity, inclusion front and center at most workplaces and dinner tables. For many people, diversity and inclusion discussions have generated a slew of questions, feelings of guilt, discomfort, or a fear of saying the wrong thing, but they've also created newfound passion around wanting to step up to make a difference. My name is Kelsey Bardfield and my pronouns are she/her. I'm a Diversity and Inclusion Manager, and I'm passionate about creating work environments where every employee feels like they belong. In this course, I'll introduce the key concepts in the inclusion space, from the basics of diversity and inclusion, to the more complex ideas of covering and microaggressions. I'll share how you can be an ally in any situation, whether in the day-to-day office life, in meetings, or at social events. I'll also give you the resources you need to improve your hiring process and ultimately empower you to have the conversations you need in order to make your workplace more inclusive. Let's dive in.
