- [Instructor] Now, why am I emphasizing an ethical foundation to meditation at all? Well, it's really, as I've been suggesting, because the mind can wind up embroiled in very unhealthy states of mind and easily, in some way, get caught up in what might be most appropriately described as delusion, although we wouldn't see it that way. And when we are driven by a kind of preoccupation with ourselves, in the smallest sense of the word, those personal pronouns, I, me and mine, my life, my ambition, my career, my needs, I, I, I, me, me, me, my, my, my. That kind of creation or generation of the self-centered orientation towards life, it can actually cause huge amounts of harm to yourself and of course, to others when your needs are in conflict with other people's needs and just think about nations that get into that kind of thing or politicians or on any level that you want to look at it, when you fall into a certain…
