The difficulty of being a hands-on landlord

- [Narrator] And now, by far, the biggest negative that most people will point out is dealing with tenants. We refer to this as landlording, or being the landlord. When you, the owner, are managing the property yourself, the amount of time spent dealing with tenants is really unknown. Being the hands-on landlord can sometimes be very frustrating and time-consuming. You're the one who must advertise, review applications, and perform background checks just to get tenants into your property. Then, you've got to collect the rent, answer tenant calls, and handle the repairs and maintenance. Of course, dealing with good tenants may be tolerable, but there are those problem tenants who just need to be evicted. Here's where dealing with tenants means, understanding renter's rights, and knowing what you can and cannot do. You'll need to check your local and state laws because some places have laws that highly favor tenants…
