- My master's thesis explored the challenges that boundary spanners and organizations face. The subjects in the study were all supervisors. As a supervisor, you are, by definition, a boundary spanner. You are the link between your team and the management. But that also means you're both part of the team and part of management. And there are natural tensions you will have to face. There will be times that organizational needs and goals and team needs and goals are not going to fully align. As a member of both groups, and the key link between them, you are going to have to figure out how to best approach these differences. On one side, you need to be a champion for your team. There are times when your team is going to need things. And it is your job to represent those needs to upper management. And there are times when you have to fight for your team's needs.
