- When you start an agile project, the relationship with the project management office will be extremely important. When the organization has several large project portfolios, they will usually have a project management office, or PMO. This group will help the entire organization manage their projects. The PMO will usually determine the success or failure of your agile transformation. In larger organizations, the PMO will be a powerful group. If your PMO is agile hostile, then your project will likely never get off the ground. This can be a real challenge for agile projects. The PMO is usually heavily invested in traditional project management. Many of the PMO's reports are not easily recreated in agile. This usually means that the PMO will either have to change their reports or ask the agile team to change their work. Convincing a PMO to change their reports is a significant challenge.
