- We all work, most of us in teams, or at least with coworkers, in organizations that have divisions or departments of some sort. So the question is, how can a systems mapping tool help you with your work? Take the example of an engineering team and a customer. Our mental model shows that there is a relationship between them. But what is it? When we take the time to consider the relationship between and among things, we can better understand them. If we distinguish the relationship by making a card we call product manager, we can see that this relationship is actually the function of the product manager. The engineering team and the customer are related by the product manager, the person that is responsible for guiding the success of the product. Now, we need to better understand what a product manager does by thinking about qualities that he or she may possess. A good product manager has instinctive qualities and deep skill.
