- When we discuss the variety of retailers that could be your target audience to sell to, there's no quick answer. There are many sizes, types and customer demographics that make up the retail environment. In fact, when you tell someone you want to sell retail, it's really too broad of a term and must be more focused when you actually go to market. Here's how I'd recommend you start the learning process. Step one is to compile a list of all of the types of retail outlets. You can get thorough lists from the retail trade associations, or use your online search engine. Here are some types of the key retailers you'll hear about and will be on your list. Some may be obvious, however you need to ensure colleagues from other departments understand the meaning, too.
