- Now we're going to look at how you negotiate over your pay when you're being offered a job in a job interview. It might be they've actually said they want you. It might be that you don't know if you've got the job, but they're just asking you about how much pay you're looking for. But either way, this is a key moment, because this is going to affect your pay for possibly quite a few years to come. And it's probably easier to get a good deal at this point then it is to try to get pay raises later once you're employed and you're in the system. So there's quite a lot of money at stake. And as usual, the main negotiating points all apply, but they apply in a subtly different way. It's quite an unusual one, this one. And one of the big differences, I think, is that people feel really weak when they're applying for a job. They're desperate to have the job.
