- [Instructor] Another key factor is to always, always do your due diligence. I'm sure you hear that a lot. Let's talk specifically about what that means for finding and buying rental properties the right way. In the same way we buy any property, we need to thoroughly inspect an established market value with comparable sales before we purchase our potential rental property. When performing inspections, especially for rentals, make sure to thoroughly check the interior and exterior of the home. Start with the major structural systems, and test to be certain everything is in proper working order. If not, make notes about what repairs or upgrades are needed. Look for any current damage or any future maintenance issues. If you are looking for multifamily properties, you may need the services of a professional inspector depending on your financing.
