Where are the power dynamics?

- When we're trying to get something done at work, we often have many potential stakeholders that we need to manage and engage with. These different stakeholders have very different levels of influence and engagement in our activities. We need a framework for deciding where to invest our attention and how best to manage these different types of stakeholders. One common way to do this is to use a power interest grid. We create a four-quadrant model with the amount of power the stakeholder has to influence our activity on the vertical axis and the amount of interest they have in it on the horizontal axis. If you locate your key stakeholders on this grid, you'll see that you need to engage with them in four very different ways. If someone has low power to influence the outcome and low interest in your activity, the bottom-left quadrant, then you don't really want to put a lot of effort into engaging with them.
