- [Narrator] You're exposed to thousands of ads every day, literally thousands of companies trying to get you to part with your money. Our everyday environment is designed to encourage us to spend. No wonder budgeting can be a challenge when our whole world wants us to spend, spend, spend. You can build up your advertising immunity, and shift from being reactive to proactive, by analyzing the advertisement. I'll never forget this course I took about 20 years ago, gosh, when I was at UC San Diego. It was about marketing messages and how they impact us emotionally and plant ideas in our subconscious brains. My final project was to dissect a magazine and try to discern which content was actually an ad, which is actually really hard, and what beliefs and emotions the ad was intending to evoke in me, and ultimately what the ad wanted me to buy.
