What is a logistics manager?

- In today's global economy, with suppliers and customers all around the world, effectively managing logistics has become more and more important for business success. But what is logistics? It's the business function that moves goods and services from the beginning of your supply chain to the end. You transport supplies and materials from the supplier to the factory, and then move finished goods from the factory to the customer. Effectively managing these processes can give your company a tremendous advantage over your competition. But what exactly does a logistics manager do? Well, logistics managers are responsible for four important aspects of your business. The first thing that comes to mind is transportation. Every day we see trucks, trains, ships, and planes moving materials and goods across the country and around the world. They also manage warehouses and distribution centers to help coordinate the efficient movement of these products, materials, and supplies. They control inventory levels and the flow of inventory to make sure everything is in the right place at the right time, and at the lowest cost possible. Logistics managers supervise these transportation, distribution, and inventory activities for the purpose of completing the customer's order. This is their fourth responsibility, order fulfillment, and it is arguably the most important aspect of every company's business. Successful logistics management is all about integrating these four responsibilities to ensure your customers are satisfied. These key logistics activities lay the foundation for some of the company's most important supply chain decisions.
