- The to-do list is action driven. It's more about the what than the when. That's why there are certain things that you should never put on your to-do list. Keeping things that are action oriented exclusive to your to-do list is going to keep your list shorter, more manageable, and, as a result, more doable. Knowing what to keep off of your to-do list is going to help you avoid this pitfall, so here are some prime examples of things that should never appear on your to-do list. Number one, appointments with others. Since these are not solely in your control and are date and time specific, they should never go on your to-do list. That said, any actions you need to take related to these types of appointments, let's say research for a phone call, should go on your to-do list. Number two, appointments with yourself.
