- You might be wondering what does ethics have to do with learning analytics. Well, let's think about what could potentially go wrong. Learning analytics make use of personal data about our learners. If they're not managed properly, data could be shared with the wrong people or with people who don't need to access your data. I give you an example. You don't really need to see that your colleague sitting next to you failed three times on a test, or should you? Then, there's the issue of transparency. A lot of times learners are not even made aware of the data being collected or given an option to consent. This could easily lead to a surveillance culture and it would generate a sense of mistrust.
