What is a critical path?
- When you map out a project, putting tasks that are dependent on one another end to end, there's always one series of activities that takes longer than all of the others. This chain of activities is called the critical path, because it determines the finished state for your entire project. Your project won't be complete until the last of those activities is done. Of course, every activity is important, but it's really important to make sure that the critical path activities are completed on time. Because those tasks don't have any slack. If any of them slip or get delayed, it'll push out the completion date for the entire project. Also, any time you update a project plan, you need to see whether the critical path has changed, because when tasks get added, delayed, or rearranged, that can move the critical path.
