- Have you ever read a self-help or a business book and the chapter starts off with a story? And the story lasts pages and pages, and you're so hooked on the characters and what's happening that you don't even realize it's building to an external lesson you're about to get hit with. Stories draw us in, inform points of connection so we can articulate concepts and lessons that might not land so well if we're just writing them on a chalkboard. We have to connect through stories first so the audience can understand the concepts after. Let's uncover your compelling story. Grab a pen and paper and write down your most compelling stories that have shaped you. Then, beneath each story, finish this sentence. This moment taught me that blank. Is there a consistent theme?
