What compassion looks like

- [Instructor] Let's start with what compassion looks like. Scientists have actually tried to answer this question. And one of my favorite studies trying to answer the question, how do we recognize compassion when we see it, was conducted at the University of California in Berkeley. And in this study, they actually first recorded romantic couples who were having a conversation, in which one of the partners was talking about their own suffering. They were telling their romantic partner about something very difficult they had experienced or were going through. And the researchers videotaped these conversations, and they had one camera trained on the listener, not the person who was sharing their suffering, but the person who was listening to their partner describe their suffering.
