What is a Gantt chart?

- One of the best tools for keeping track of when things will happen in a project is a Gantt chart. A Gantt chart is a project calendar that's laid out horizontally. It can help you see which activities are happening at the same time, and that's useful for identifying issues like competition for resources. It can also make it easier to see which activities will be occurring on key dates like holidays. Making a Gantt chart is easy. Along the top, you put the dates. This could be individual days for a detailed Gantt chart or it could months or years if you just need a high-level summary. Then down the side, you list the tasks or the phases of the project. And add bars next to each task showing when it will start and end. You can also add milestones like a kickoff date or a review meeting. These are usually marked using a diamond instead of a bar.
