We're wired to react
- A creative organization offers people a climate where they can be open, vulnerable, and willing to take risks. Unfortunately, our default setting as human beings is to judge, evaluate, and look for problems. The truth is, that we're wired to react. Science tells us that as we developed as human beings, the earliest parts of our brain to develop were our amygdala and our limbic system. These ae the parts of our brain that sense the outside world and help us react to danger or threat. In fact, the amygdala is sometimes called our reptilian brain because we share it with our scaly friends. So what does this have to do with creativity? Our life is different today from prehistoric times, but the amygdala hasn't evolved. It's still on the lookout for threats, only now, it's typically not physical threats to our survival, it's threats to our ego, our sense of who we are. This occurs in three primary ways.
