- Every technology can be used for good or bad. The only thing I can tell you is to start thinking outside the box, to start asking the difficult questions, being aware. Your technologies can now impact people on a scale as never before. (upbeat music) My name is Vivek Wadwha, I'm a distinguished fellow and an adjunct professor at Carnegie Medical University in Silicon Valley. You know, there's never been a period in human history like this when anyone, anywhere can solve one of the grand challenges of humanity. When I say grand challenges, I mean the things that have been holding mankind back. Disease, hunger, poverty, lack of energy, lack of education, all of these big problems can be solved. People like you and me can not only be building better algorithms, but we can be building solutions to the world's problems. This is the most amazing period in human history. Now, I'm very optimistic about technology, and I normally talk about the great things it can do. There's also a dark side to them. Every good has a bad. So, let's start thinking very carefully about the impact of our technologies, because never before did we have the ability to impact billions of people with the technology we're creating. Today we do.
