Welcome to the essentials of mindfulness and compassion

- Mindfulness and compassion are ancient tools that have been used in wisdom traditions for thousands of years. Now you might think it's a little bit esoteric, right? Meditation, sitting in a cave somewhere, getting in touch with your inner self. But what we're going to talk about in this course is how to use these practices in the world of business, in the world of our modern lives, and the fact that our modern lives in a business environment is just as valid of a context to use these tools as an ashram. We start with mindfulness. It's the development of self. And what we know is by practicing mindfulness, we can reduce stress and reduce anxiety. We can sleep better. We can have better relationships. Those are all things we need in our modern environment. And on the compassion side, we don't work in isolation. We work with other people. We live with other people. So this idea of compassion going from Me to We is incredibly valuable in our modern lives as an individual, as a team, even as a company. Hi, I'm Scott Shute. After 25 years of leadership roles, I'm leading mindfulness compassion programs at LinkedIn. I've been practicing mindfulness since I was 13 and teaching since I was in college. And these practices have had a profound impact on my life, including my career. So join me in this course, as we talk about the basics of mindfulness and compassion, and we talk about how these powerful concepts can change the way we live, but also change the way we work.
