- We've all been there. It's February and we're all set to be on track with our budget. And then summer camp registration comes up and it totally throws everything off. And then your kids get invited to multiple birthday parties. And no matter how hard you try, you just can't stay on budget with those extra expenses that came up by the end of the month, you're totally tapped. And yet you could have seen it coming. Non monthly expenses are things that, you know will come up. They just don't happen on a recurring monthly basis. So they're easy to overlook. Whereas an emergency fund is for things you truly can't predict like losing your job or a water heater breaking. Your non monthly expenses, you typically can see coming if you think about it.
