- After you've discovered your values and defined them, we're ready to take the next step and connect those values to your day-to-day work. While this process is simple, I've found that people have difficulty with making this connection. They may understand that they need to do their work and they may have defined their values, but few people ask themselves, "What does this value have to do with the email that I'm answering or the meeting that I'm going to or the customer I'm talking to?" When you pause to make the connection, you start to see that tasks that seemed insignificant suddenly have more meaning. Let's return to the Values Discovery worksheet. The example shows that this person listed generosity as one of their values along with the definition. In the final column, they entered one connection between that value and the work they do each day. This person chose to occasionally give a gift without an expectation…
