Understanding the whole person

- Have you ever wondered why some people thrive in an organization and others just survive? Survivors feel like they're just a number. Those who thrive feel understood. So it's your job as a leader to help people feel like they matter. Let's look at how you can gather information to make that happen. Start by collecting intel about what makes your employees tick, and act on it. Treat them with what I call the platinum rule, treating others the way they want to be treated. I like to keep notes about what's going on in my employees lives, and it's something you can do too. You can note special family events they mention, or if they talk about their alma mater, or favorite book, or upcoming trip. Add these notes to a context section of your phone so you can always have it handy. Then be on the lookout for ways you can help them. Based on the information you've gathered, send them an article or bring up their name for a project you know they'd be interested in. Trust me, this will pay off…
