- By now, many of you have heard the terms, diversity and inclusion, but what do they really mean? After this lesson, you'll have a better understanding of what these terms mean and the common mistakes many organizations make when trying to incorporate them. There is a visual I find to be really helpful when talking about diversity. This is the diversity iceberg. As with real icebergs, the visible aspects above the waterline are just a fraction of what makes up the full iceberg. Those visible aspects of diversity are things like race, gender, age and language. But about 80% of our diversity is invisible or below the waterline and includes things like physical ability, religion, education, social class, sexual orientation, the list goes on.
