- A lot of times, young employees don't feel like management can relate to them or even care about them as individuals. This can result in a young team of rebellious employees that simply show up for work and go through the motions. I want to share three ways you can build relationships and rapport with young employees. When you build relationships and show them that you do care, you experience better retention, increased employee productivity, and accomplish your work objectives easier, faster, and with better results. First, get to know their professional background. Have they ever had a job before? If so, was it similar to what they're doing now or completely different? What do they like and dislike about their work experience? Having this information is invaluable to you, because it gives you insight to where that person's comin' from.
