- Our brains receive 11 million bits of information every second throughout the day, but can only process 50 of those. That information overload causes our unconscious bias to kick in. In fact there are almost 200 biases people use to make everyday decisions. As a human resources professional, I am keenly aware of how unconscious bias can show up in job descriptions and the recruiting and interview process. Let's face it. The societies we live in are diverse, and unconscious bias can quietly sabotage any efforts to build equally diverse workplaces. In this course, we'll go over common unconscious bias, like affinity and conformity bias, and how you can minimize those during the recruiting and interview process. Because as we all know, if we can eliminate our own bias, we'll likely hire the right qualified and diverse candidates more often. Hi, I'm Dr. Tana M. Session, organizational strategist and recognized diversity and inclusion thought leader. I've spent over 20 years in human resources, and have helped organizations discover strategies to reduce and eliminate bias in their workplace. Join me as we go on a journey to identify unconscious bias in your own recruiting and interview process. And don't worry, this is a no-judgment zone. We are all guilty of our own unconscious bias. But self-awareness is the key to unlock the door of change. Are you ready to dive in? Great, then let's get started.
