- When you're generating ideas, they rarely come out fully formed and ready to go and even if you think they have, it's worth stress testing them and seeing if you can make them even better. Let me explain a technique that will help you do that, but I will warn you, you're probably not going to like it. I'm going to ask you to be your own worst enemy. Imagine you're one of the decision makers, the client or a critic reviewing your idea. Come up with all the objections and criticisms you think that they might say and don't hold back. Lay into your idea. Rip it to shreds. Be really horrible. Then take a break and go and do something that makes you happy. Give yourself a hug because you're bound to feel pretty miserable if you've done this exercise well. Now your job is to go through each piece of criticism and do one of two things.
