- Let's discuss alternative ways to deliver the topics that don't really require a meeting. From our research, we know that this represents about 40% of the total time in a typical meeting. The number one culprit is information giving, broadcasts such as presentations, status updates, and reviews. This is where one individual gives information to the group and there is little or no role for participants other than to listen and perhaps ask an occasional question at the end. One of the worst examples of this we ever heard was one of our participants in Singapore who was asked to fly to a meeting in Shanghai. At the meeting, she watched a video and then flew home. With many other ways of delivering information, by email, shared documents, or recording a quick video or webinar, these topics don't require everyone to be available at the same time.
