- When it comes to distraction, sometimes the best way to fight technology is with technology. I'm referring to apps and settings on your smartphone that help minimize interruptions and reduce the temptation to look at your phone. For example, both Android and iPhone have a do not disturb setting. I recommend playing around with this and creating settings that establish times of the day when you do not receive incoming messages or notifications of any kind. You'll probably also find settings that detect when your phone is accelerating or connected to your car's Bluetooth. Other third-party apps provide similar services. This will help you respect the crucial boundary of not using your smartphone while driving. Other apps can help you become aware of how you are using your phone and create boundaries.
