- You've made the decision. You have a strong case, and your decision has been approved. Now, it's time to choose the right time and place for the actual meeting. There are two different types of cases here. The first is when a person has done something so extreme that it warrants immediate dismissal. For example, maybe there was violence or threats or stealing. In these cases, first consider whether or not law enforcement or company security is needed based on the nature of the offense. Assuming it's safe, then find an appropriate witness, ideally someone above your rank or from HR. Together, you'll go and address the person, calmly and politely. Let them know they're terminated. Secure all company property. Allow them to collect personal belongings, and escort them from the building. Any other matters can be addressed later via phone or email or regular mail.
