- To perform job roles well we need a toolbox. The techniques are your toolbox for agile analysis. These techniques are commonly used by agile BAs to execute agile analysis at the three different horizons. Strategic, initiative, and delivery. Having a solid knowledge of many techniques helps agile BAs problem solve, collaborate and get results. The techniques in the agile extension are an important part of the certification exam. Questions about the techniques represent about a third of the exam. Now besides knowing the techniques, you'll need to understand them within the context of the three horizons. You'll need to know situational context of the techniques within each horizon, and this will require not only knowledge of the techniques, but also combining that knowledge with your understanding of the three horizons. Each technique is described in the agile extension with something called elements. These elements are things that are important to understand about the technique. Sometimes they represent the steps used in the technique and sometimes the elements are aspects of the technique to know about. Besides the elements, some important things to know about each technique are the basics about the technique, things like what it is, what is the purpose and why is it used? Also, you'll want to know the basics of any visual representation of the technique if it's a visual technique, and the strengths and limitations of the technique. And last, know what horizon the technique is used in and how to recognize a situation with using it within the horizon. To get you started, it's helpful to see how the techniques are generally used and which are commonly used with others. This table shows an overview of the techniques and the various concepts that they're used for and used with both internal and external stakeholders to the team. For example, when thinking about productive ways to communicate with stakeholders, you might use this table to think through if your stakeholders are internal or external and which technique would help communicate and facilitate the right dialogue for the purpose. It's a great place to start thinking about the techniques you currently use and the gaps you may need to focus on while studying. As you study the 24 techniques and prepare for the exam, remember that these techniques will help you on the job too. They help us think, collaborate, facilitate and get true results. Your toolbox will love the upgrade and so will your career.
