- I have this one crew member I fired three times and I hired him back. And one time he ran the boat aground. Not the big boat, but we tow a small tender. He had the clients on board. He clearly ran out of the channel, because for whatever reason, and he ran the boat aground. So when he came back I sat him down, I'm like, Tom why did you go outside the channel? And he was apologetic, and he wasn't paying attention, the clients were talking to him. So that was a teachable moment. Even though the client is distracting you from navigation that means you never take your eyes off where you're going. Just like in skiing, or anything you're doing, or driving a car. If someone's talking to you you still pay attention to where you're going. It's just harder in a boat because everyone is talking to you all the time from every angle.
