- When I was a college freshman, a recent graduate from my business fraternity, named Tina, offered to do a resume review for all of the fraternity members. I took her up on it and she sent me a few ideas over email on how to improve my resume. I thanked her, we connected on LinkedIn, and we didn't speak again. Fast forward to seven years later. I was living in Chicago, looking for a job in consulting and was going through my LinkedIn contacts. I came across Tina, who was working for a big consulting company in Chicago. I reached out and we reconnected over the phone. She knew of a consulting firm that was hiring and passed me along to them. I got the job. Now, if I hadn't made a great impression on Tina when I was in college and if I hadn't taken the time to connect with her on LinkedIn, I never would have landed my consulting job.
