Taming nerves while presenting

- Okay, you've just started speaking and you realize you're so nervous your hands are shaking. What do you do? Try to redirect the tension so that you can get rid of the shakes. Curl your toes together or squeeze your biceps for just a few seconds. By doing this, you're literally sending that nervous energy to another part of your body and releasing the tension from your body. Slowly release and then take a deep breath. You've got to do this in a way that your audience can't tell what's going on. For example, your hands are shaking and you ball up your fists, it would be obvious to everyone in the group. So find a way to send tension somewhere else where people won't notice it. But as a caution, make sure you never lock your knees. That can lead to fainting. Practice this, figure out what works fastest for you, and then remember to use it if you ever need it.
