- There may be a time when a colleague asks you to take notes for him because he'll miss a meeting. Of course you want to be helpful. But before you say yes, ask him this question, "What are you hoping to get out of the meeting?" That way you know what you're looking for with your note taking. I asked Melissa Smith for some tips. She's the CEO of the Association of virtual Assistants And fun fact, I actually hired her to help me find a virtual assistant. Best money I ever spent. Okay. So here's what Melissa told me, "Don't be afraid to ask someone to repeat a point if you missed it during the meeting." Remember, you're there to take notes for someone else. And if that point is important to them, you better catch it. She also said to be clear about pointing out deadlines in your notes.
