Taking the first step in understanding your boss

- One of the best ways to figure out who your boss is is to have a conversation. I call it the priorities, the preferences, and the pet peeves conversation. It's a really simple thing to do and it can be life-changing. This conversation has four parts. The first part is go talk with your boss and find out what his or her or their workplace preferences are. How do they like to communicate? How do they like to work? How often do they want to be kept updated on projects? How do they like feedback? How often do they want to see your lovely face in their office? The second part is priorities. Find out what your boss's top priorities are. What's most important to you right now? What's less important? What do you want us to focus on this week, this month, this year?
