- I tell people for their career success to move forward quickly we have got to depend, not on our boss or our organization, to tell us what to do to move forward but we have to become more in control of our own destiny. We need to improve ourselves. We shouldn't have to wait for our bosses, Pete, to tell us how well we're performing. We should know how well we're performing. We shouldn't have to wait for the organization's talent manager to have a talent review with us to sit down and say, "you need to improve in these three areas." We should know, we should have that plan in place. So we need to become more self-directed in our approach to our careers and our personal development. And I would go back and I'd throw a big one in here and the big one would be this, that it's really important that we not be afraid to take risks.
