We had to just fend for ourselves, every day was a struggle for survival. So there really were only two options for our ancient stone-age ancestors. And that is to say option one, thinking there was a lion in the bush and there wasn't one. Option two, thinking there was no lion in the bush and there was one. Which one meant death? The second one. But the first option got used to survive. But the gamble that nature has in mind is that by allowing you to always be in this potentially driven threat matrix mode, this allows you to survive.
