A supply chain is a complex system made up of people, processes, and technologies that are engineered and managed to deliver value to a customer. Supply chain management and all of the other jobs that are discussed in this course, are critical for engineering and managing that chain. Inside of a company, the three functions that are most closely directly responsible for the supply chain are logistics, operations, and procurement. But increasingly other groups are getting pulled in, including project management, information technology, and human resources. Because all of them are essential for delivering value to customers.
