(upbeat music) - You wanna get a sense of what will be expected of you as quickly as possible. Maybe that means coming in beforehand to meet with or shadow the team or joining them for lunch. Ask what will work for everyone, which is also the position you wanna take in any organization. And be careful, be appropriate and not too pushy or overeager. - Although managing your professional image is important when making an impression, it's essential to always be authentic, always be yourself.
The trick is to show parts of your personality at the appropriate time. - Have respect for the culture you're joining and the people who have been part of it because you may be coming from outside the company or a department, you offer a fresh perspective and new ideas. Presumably, that's part of the reason you were hired but first, learn how things work around there. Wait before you begin to offer your brilliant ideas and get permission to do so beforehand.
- Listening is an invisible skill. It's not flashy. It doesn't announce itself. But it can be your secret weapon. Who wouldn't want access to better and more accurate information and a chance to connect with your colleagues at a deeper level? - It can be humbling to ask for help. Making sure you're clear, specific and strategic in the way you ask for help makes people happier to help you.
