- Since conflict is inevitable, you'll always have chances to practice. It's difficult to learn new skills though, in the heat of conflict. I recommend you seek out a training program that can help you learn specific skills and be able to practice them in a safe environment. Then you'll be able to hone them in practice sessions at work and in actual conflicts. The exercise files that accompany this course can help you develop a template for improving your skills. It will take practice though, to actually hone them. It's much like a sport. You can get an idea of how to play golf by reading a book, but you can't build the skills needed by sitting in your chair. You have to get up and go practice. You may need to get lessons, and you'll have to play. You don't have to become an expert.
