Storytelling in strategic mentoring

- As human beings, we are not wired to process data or information. Instead, we're wired to process stories. That's why since the beginning of humankind there's been stories, such as fairy tales, and it's why Aesop seemed to couch his wisdom in fables. So where do you find the stories that will illustrate the teaching point that you're trying to share. Well guess what? Stories are all around us. You can look in the newspaper. Most likely there's already a story that's stuck in your mind, but what will make it even more effective is if you share your own personal story. Share a situation that reminds you of the situation the mentee is going through and then you arrived at the learning point and at the end of the day, don't spout data, don't spout information. Share a story instead.
